It's not all that surprising that Flack gets turned into a cat. These things happen from time to time; transformation spells aren't that unusual in their line of work. It's more surprising that Flack is turned into a kitten instead of a grown cat roughly equivalent to his own age. Stella is vaguely concerned about whether, when the enchantment is reversed, he'll be the proper thirty-two years old again.

Flack seems to be enjoying it though. Of course, he hasn't exactly retained his sense of self-awareness. At least Stella doesn't think he has, but she could be wrong. She's basing her assumption on his complete lack of distress at being a kitten. He's been bounding around her office for a half-hour, climbing up onto the back of her chair then down again. Occasionally he swats at her hair.

Eventually, he hops over to her desk and onto the keyboard of her computer, mewing. Stella laughs and scoops him up. He arches, purring, and rubs against her hand. Mac's out of town, or else she doesn't think they could get away with this. Flack would be cooped up in an observation lab. That's overkill for a simple transformation spell, though.

When she heads down to see Adam, Flack trots after her, more like a dog than a cat. That's good though, because Adam needs to examine him and she doesn't want to leave Flack alone anyway. He'd probably get into the ductwork or something. Flack bounds along, stopping to attack someone's pantleg, then running to catch up with her. At Adam's lab, she holds the door open for Flack and he darts inside before her. Adam breaks into a grin.

Stella has to hold Flack to keep him still while Adam runs a few diagnostic spells. He gnaws on her fingers, but not hard enough to hurt.

After, Stella breaks out the bag of dry cat food they keep on hand and pours some on a plate for Flack. (Cats are almost always what people get turned into; folks love the classics.) She and Adam go over the results of the diagnostic, and when she looks back over, Flack is flopped face-down in the food, asleep.

Stella bursts out laughing.
